True Refuge: Three Gateways to Peace and Freedom

Description:
When we are caught in fear or shame, our tendency is to take false refuge. We turn towards obsessive thinking, self-judgment or judging others; we get busy and distracted; we numb ourselves with over consuming. Remembering our truerefuge at these times is the gateway to all healing and freedom. In this workshop we will investigate how we get stuck, and how we can call on the self-compassion and wisdom that carry us to happiness, freedom and peace. Our day together will include meditations and reflections, dharma talks and sharing.

True Refuge: Meditations for Emotional Healing and Spiritual Awakening

Description:
When the difficulties and losses of life feel overwhelming, is there someplace we can turn for the safety, nurturing, and peace that we long for? Most of us are strongly conditioned to react with fear, falling back on strategies of judgment, control, addictive behaviors, and anger. Yet there is another way. “In any moment, no matter how lost we feel, we can take refuge in presence and love,” teaches Tara Brach. In this talk Tara will highlight our biggest “false refuge,” making war on ourselves, and explore how the practices of mindfulness and self-compassion can carry us home to our own awakened heart. The evening will include guided meditations and time for sharing.
When:
Monday, September 8, 2014 - 7 to 8:30pm
Where:
Alternatives in London, UK - St James’s Church, Piccadilly

Description:
Insecurity and loss are part of being alive and each of us longs for a place of true refuge, where we are at home with our life and spirit.

This meditation retreat explores how, in the face of even life’s greatest challenges, you can discover a sanctuary of wisdom and equanimity in your own awakened heart. Through meditation, guided exercises, and discussions, learn how to cultivate Buddhism’s three archetypal portals, or the three gateways to peace and freedom, that lead to emotional healing and spiritual awakening: mindfulness, loving presence, and open awareness.
